Alvaro J. Orrantia, MBA, is Manager, Business Advisory Services, at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where he has been involved in several Sarbanes-Oxley, Bill 198 and SAS70 projects in the area of Business Continuity, Information Security and IT Governance. Previously, Alvaro worked as Manager, Security and Business Continuity, at ADP Canada, leading the implementation of different solutions for the company's critical applications, planned several Disaster Recovery tests, scheduled annual BIAs and documented a variety of Business Continuity Plans. On the Information Security field, Alvaro established best practices to improve the security posture of the company, from technical procedures and tools to employee awareness and corporate policies. Prior to ADP, Alvaro was Infrastructure Manager at TNT Logistics, also overseeing information security, and disaster recovery. Alvaro has held a variety of positions in Constructora Bolivar and AT&T/NCR. Among other previous initiatives, he was engaged in a consulting assignment for evaluating the local government's IT infrastructure and applications, presenting the results to the President of Colombia.

John Lee has over 20 years experience working in the information services area, managing the IT operations of leading Canadian organizations, primarily in the financial sector. Prior to his role at Pitney Bowes of Canada as Vice President, Information Technology, Mr. Lee acted as Vice President, eBusiness Division at Fidelity Investments Canada, and previously as Vice President, Information Technology at Scotia McLeod Inc. Mr. Lee also acted as the Chairman of Investment Fund Industry of Canada's Y2K subcommittee, representing the interests of the Canadian Mutual Fund Industry, ensuring that the industry and public interests were accommodated by the provincial and federal regulators as well as by various fund companies. In addition, Mr. Lee is a frequent speaker at professional conferences and seminars on topics related to Information Technology in the financial sector, Disaster Recovery issues and Back Office trends. As part of his community and voluntarily activities, Mr. Lee was actively involved in the "Out of the Cold" campaign, assisting to raise funds for the establishment of shelters for the homeless in Toronto. |
 Akhil Bhandari CCL Industries Inc.

Akhil Bhandari is Vice President IT and CIO at Toronto-based multinational CCL Industries Inc. CCL provides outsourcing solutions to some of the world's largest producers of consumer brands, helping them get their products to market quickly and cost-effectively. Prior to this, Akhil managed IT as a shared services business unit for a large, privately held Canadian conglomerate. He is well versed in developing, implementing and managing an IT chargeback system in a very diverse and complex organization. His 15 years of experience as an IT executive is complemented by another 15 years of progressively responsible positions in manufacturing operations. He holds an undergraduate degree in engineering, and an MBA from Richard Ivey School of Business at University of Western Ontario.

 Art Pelletier Export Development Canada

Art Pelletier has worked in a number of areas within the IT field for over 30 years, with 25 years at Export Development Canada. He was a core member of the EDC's Re-Engineering project in the mid-1990s, which essentially re-designed the corporation. He currently leads the Client Services Department within the IT operation, providing a broad range of services to the corporation, including BCP co-ordination, Help Desk support, Telecommunications and Data Warehousing. His staff supports over 1,000 EDC users across Canada and abroad. He is a member of the Knowledge Management Council of the Conference Board of Canada. He is frequently consulted by government and private sector organizations on Business Continuity and has spoken at several conferences on the subject. Prior to joining EDC, Art has worked in several government departments. He holds a BA with honours from Carleton University in Ottawa. Export Development Canada (EDC) is a Canadian Crown Corporation whose purpose is to facilitate and promote the export of Canadian goods and services through the provision of insurance and financial services.

 Jonathan Ward, I.S.P., MBCS CITP Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS)

Jonathan Ward, I.S.P., MBCS CITP, is the Director of Professional Standards for the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS). Jonathan is also Managing Partner of Business Resilience Incorporated, which is a group of Business Continuity Professionals specializing in the development of Business Continuity measurement models. As the CIPS Director of Professional Standards, Jonathan is a member of the National Executive responsible for advocating professional standards and the Information Systems Professional (I.S.P.) designation in Canada. He also acts as the liaison between CIPS and the British Computer Society. Before embarking on a career in Information Technology, Jonathan was a Diplomat with the British Foreign Service serving in South Africa, Singapore, the former Yugoslavia and India. In 1986, he joined the IT department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London, UK. It was during this time he realized that IT was where his aptitude really lay. To demonstrate to his fellow workers that he was serious about IT, Jonathan took the British Computer Society Examinations over a four-year period and became a Chartered IT Professional. Since that time, he has had a great interest in IT professionalism and standards for the industry. In 1996, Jonathan became interested in Business Continuity Planning while working as a consultant at CIBC Wood Gundy. He then joined DRIE Toronto and has been a member ever since. He is an active member of the CIPS Toronto Business Continuity Special Interest Group (SIG) and has worked as a Business Continuity consultant in the financial sector, government, manufacturing and the software industry. Jonathan holds a Chartered Information Technology Professional (MBCS CITP) designation from the British Computer Society and an Information Systems Professional (I.S.P.) designation from CIPS.

Michael Addo-Yobo is currently a Manager with the Enterprise Risk Group of Deloitte & Touche LLP, Toronto. Michael has 14 years of management and information technology consulting experiences with national and multi-national corporations in a number of countries including the U.S. and Canada. In the last 10 years, Michael's focus has been on Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning, while working for, or providing professional services for local and international business environments. His current portfolios include key Deloitte & Touche clients in the Canadian banking and real estate industry. Michael has also been involved in other IT Governance work, IT Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance and IT Strategic Planning engagements among others. A member of a few professional institutions dedicated to best professional practices and eminence in related subject matter areas, Michael's industry experience includes banking/financial services, real estate, telecommunications, oil & gas, mining and air navigation.

Marylaine Canavan is Manager, Business Advisory Services at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP in Business Continuity, part of the Risk and Regulatory practice where she is involved in the development and review of recovery strategies and plans for many organizations. Previously, Marylaine worked as Director, Consulting Services for Agility Recovery Solutions. Prior to Agility, Marylaine was a senior consultant at IBM, and a partner of Continuum Planning Inc. Marylaine has over 20 years of experience in Information Security, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity. She is a well known speaker on Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity topics and issues. Her industry experience spans many different business sectors, including financial, energy and manufacturing at all phases of Business Continuity Program maturity. Marylaine specializes in developing and implementing comprehensive Business Continuity Programs that integrate with corporate ethical culture and governance controls. |
