Through multimedia CD-ROM technology, Federated Press is proud to bring the world of live conferences literally to the fingertips of anyone with a computer. With the simple click of a mouse, you can now attend a live conference without having to incur the combined costs of registration, travel and accommodations — or time away from the office. Conference CD-ROMs are the modern way to benefit from leading-edge business conference information, for a fraction of the cost of attending in person and much more conveniently.

With these new CD-ROMs, users are able to see and hear video and audio clips of conference speakers, as well as review executive summaries of any paper before accessing all or any part of it at their leisure. The CD-ROMs are fully labeled and indexed to allow quick retrieval of information. The user is presented with 5 to 12 hours of material that has been dissected into hundreds of discrete points so that every piece of information can be accessed separately. All you have to do is point and click on a conveniently labeled sound byte in order to hear a 2-5 minute segment, focusing on one aspect of the presentation. Users get to hear the information they want without wading through tens of thousands of words within conference papers. It’s all available at your fingertips and you can either listen or choose to read the material by printing out the paper(s). The choice is yours.

CD-ROM Conferences are designed to suit the purchaser’s timetable. Users will not only receive presentations from key experts in every CD-ROM, but often hundreds of pages of original contributions delivered by these speakers at recent conference events.

These products, offering valuable information at enormous cost savings, represent a tremendous resource for company libraries.

Easy technical requirements

You will not have to learn to use any new and complex software to take full advantage of these CDs: the menus and text are displayed via your Web browser — the very piece of software that you are using right now. Multimedia parts (audio and video, or audio only for some older conferences) are displayed via RealPlayer®, available at no cost from the RealNetworks Web site.

Minimal configuration: Windows

At the very minimum, users must have a 233MHz processor with 64 MB of RAM and a CD-ROM reader (2x speed or more). An audio sound adapter (e.g., SoundBlaster, ADLIB) is needed to listen to the audio clips. The minimum software requirement is Windows 95. A frames-capable browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer is required.

Ideally, for the multimedia presentations, you will be using RealPlayer® 8, which recommends a 300MHz Intel Pentium processor or equivalent and 128 MB of RAM. If your machine does not meet those specifications, you may download an older version of RealPlayer® (version G2 is the minimum).

Minimal configuration: Mac

Mac users also need a frames-capable browser. Mac OS 8.1 and 32MB of RAM are required by RealPlayer® 8. Again, older versions of RealPlayer® may be downloaded for use on less powerful machines.
