Jayne L. Casanova is a lawyer, chartered accountant and legal consultant with Watson Wyatt Canada. She is responsible for developing and delivering pension governance services and advising both Watson Wyatt professionals and clients on legal issues affecting a variety of pension and benefit arrangements. Jayne has been employed in the pension and benefits industry for 17 years following her graduation from the University of Western Ontario and from the University of Windsor. In addition to pension consulting, Jayne teaches pension-related courses at Humber College and Ryerson University, publishes and is a conference speaker.

Bruce Tollefson
Watson Wyatt Worldwide

 

Bruce is an Associate with Watson Wyatt Canada. He advises clients on the governance of their pension plans, endowments and other capital accumulation pools. Bruce assists fiduciaries in developing and implementing effective governance systems and conducts independent reviews of existing governance practices. In addition, he provides training to clients on pension plan governance principles, policies and processes.

Bruce is a member of the industry task force that advised the Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities (CAPSA) on the development of a pension governance implementation tool for use by Canadian pension plans. He is a member of a task force recently established by the federal pension regulator, The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), to consider the governance of capital accumulation pools. He is also a member of an industry-sponsored Pension Plan Governance Task Force created to address the pension governance recommendations of the Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce chaired by the Honourable Michael Kirby. Bruce was a member of the Pension Investment Association of Canada's pension plan governance committee and assisted in developing the Association's groundbreaking 1997 booklet "Effective Pension Plan Governance". He has been a speaker at numerous industry meetings on pension governance. He has written articles in Benefits Canada, Benefits and Pensions Monitor and CCH publications. Bruce currently delivers the day-long Pension Plan Governance module of Humber College's recently introduced Trustee Development Program.

 

Michael Beswick
Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS)

Michael Beswick is Senior Vice-President of Pensions at the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS). He has been associated with OMERS since 1974, having started in the policy area. He currently is responsible for pension administration, policy, communications, systems and data. Apart from OMERS, Michael has worked in the areas of pensions, employee benefits and compensation in industry. He is active professionally in the Association of Canadian Pension Management (former President), on the Board of Trade Pension and Benefits Committee and on the editorial board of the Pension and Benefits Monitor. He is also active as a member of the Trent University Board of Governors, Chair of the Audit & Finance Committee at Trent University and a member of the Pension Committee of the Board of Trade.

 


Kathy Denardo
Cap Gemini Ernst & Young

Kathy Denardo is Vice-President - Chief Financial Officer for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young's Outsourcing business in Canada. The business provides long-term information technology and business process services (Finance, Pay, Supply Management, Call Centre) for clients, largely in the energy sector, including Ontario Power Generation and Hydro One. Kathy played a lead role in starting up the two multi-billion dollar deals serviced by this business and in transforming them to improve profitability. With over 1500 employees in this business, most represented by two unions, Kathy also has responsibility for managing all actuarial and investment matters related to two defined benefit pension plans and other retirement benefit plans.

 


A. Jay Waters
Standard Life Investments Inc.

 

A. Jay Waters, is Vice-President, Central Canada at Standard Life Investments Inc. In that position, Jay is responsible for marketing Standard Life Investments Inc.'s pooled and segregated funds through actuarial consultants and brokers, and to pension plan sponsors in Central Canada. He is also responsible for client service, and acts as a liaison between clients and the Standard Life Investments Inc.'s management team. Jay jointed Standard Life Investments Inc. in 1991. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario and the Certified Investment Manager designation from the Canadian Securities Institute.
