Nancy Rector, BBA, BSc(CS), CA, CISA, CIA, CISSP
Deloitte & Touche LLP

Nancy Rector is the Partner responsible for the Enterprise Risk Services (ERS) Group for Deloitte & Touche LLP in Ottawa. A sixteen-year veteran of the firm, Ms. Rector has worked extensively in the areas of internal control consulting and internal control certification and has particular expertise in the area of ERP security, audit and control related issues, particularly as it relates to the Public Sector. She currently leads the CEO/CFO Certification service line for Deloitte in Ottawa. Ms. Rector's industry focus is the public sector; she has a wealth of experience in providing both audit and consulting services to crown corporations, Federal government departments and agencies, and Provincial governments.

Ms. Rector has led numerous IT Audit and internal control related engagements for Deloitte during her career with the firm. Prior to her move to Ottawa in 1998, Ms. Rector was responsible for Computer Assurance Services in Atlantic Canada for Deloitte.

Ms. Rector is a member of the Ottawa Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors, the Information System Audit and Control Association, the National Capital Chapter of the Financial Management Institute and the New Brunswick and Ontario Institutes of Chartered Accountants. She is also a frequent guest speaker to various special interest groups on topics relating to internal controls and information technology auditing particularly as it pertains to the security, audit and control of Enterprise Resource Planning Packages such as SAP, Oracle, Peoplesoft, etc.

Jane Craighead, Ph.D., CA
Mercer Human Resource Consulting

 

Jane Craighead is head of the Executive Compensation Practice in Mercer's Montreal office and is a National Partner. Jane works with private and public sector clients on pay-for-performance and corporate governance issues. She holds a PhD in Management and a Chartered Accountant designation.

Cape Breton Growth Fund Corporation (CBGF)/Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC)

 

A native of Nova Scotia, Mr. Beaton is the Chairperson and CEO of the Cape Breton Growth Fund Corporation (CBGF) and Vice-President of Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC) in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The mandate of these two Crown corporations is to foster and promote economic diversification and job creation in this sub-region of Atlantic Canada that faces a number of economic development challenges. Mr. Beaton has been a federal public servant for over 31 years and he has experience in the private sector as well. He has previously worked in Ottawa as the ministerial liaison for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and in Prince Edward Island as the director general of corporate affairs and programs, also with ACOA.

A graduate of Dalhousie University in Halifax, Mr. Beaton has been involved as a volunteer with numerous community organizations over the years.

Both the CBGF and ECBC have been extremely involved in corporate governance initiatives and Mr. Beaton has worked closely with his respective boards of directors to implement a number of best practices.

 


Jacques J. Levesque
Transform Management Consulting

 

Jacques J. Levesque is the President and CEO of Transform Management Consulting. His experience includes assisting boards improve their governance practices, enhance their leadership capabilities and work cohesively as teams. He brings the insights of having been the President and CEO of Northern Telephone Ltd., Entourage Technology Solutions and Genesis Telecom, as well as having served on numerous for-profit and not-for-profit boards in Canada and in South America. He also has 4-years experience as a partner and the lead governance consultant at Renaud Foster Management Consultants. He currently assists individual directors and boards from all sectors improve their governance and effectiveness through executive coaching and consulting.

 


Shelly M. Kehoe,CA, CAFM, BBA
Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC)

 

Shelly Kehoe was appointed Special Advisor to the Vice-President of Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC) in November 2005. Prior to taking on her current assignment, Ms. Kehoe was a Senior Manager with Grant Thornton LLP, for a period of 8 years, taking the lead on numerous projects. As a Certified Aboriginal Finance Manager (CAFM), Ms. Kehoe has experience handling First Nation year-end audits, and was instrumental in the development of a system of internal controls for Band-owned entities. Shelly has held various positions with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and has also acted as a Client Service Agent for the Canada Revenue Agency. A graduate of Mount Saint Vincent University, Shelly possesses a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), and is fluently bi-lingual. Shelly has been a strong advocate for community economic development through her past roles as a Board member for the Cape Breton Growth Fund Corporation (CBGF), Development Isle Madame Association (DIMA), and as a volunteer with Junior Achievers of Nova Scotia.

 


T. Richard Turner
TitanStar Investment Group Inc./ BC Lottery Corporation/ Insurance Corporation of BC

 

T. Richard Turner is the President and CEO of TitanStar Investment Group Inc., a private company engaged in the provision of private equity capital to mid-sized businesses and capital for real estate developments and acquisitions. He is also a Director, President and CEO of the only subsidiary of IAT Air Cargo Facilities Income Fund, a TSX-listed company (ACF_U) which is involved in the development and management of real estate on airports. He has held these roles at IAT since 1989. His other current Board positions include Trustee of Sunrise Senior Living Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:SZR.U); Trustee and Audit Committee Member of Sun Gro Horticultural Income Fund (TSX:GRO_U); Director of Sora Group Wealth Advisors Inc.; Board Chair and Director of both the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia and the British Columbia Lottery Corporation; and Chair of Board of Trade.com Network Solutions. Mr. Turner is additionally a Director and Audit Committee Member of the Organizing Committee of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC); Hearing Member of the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada; Governor of the BC Business Council; and a past Chair and Governor of the Vancouver Board of Trade. In 2003, Mr. Turner received the H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee Award (for public service in Canada).

 


Sophie Joncas
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation/ Jacques-Cartier Champlain Bridges Corporation

 

Sophie Joncas was appointed to the Board of Directors of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation in August 2001 and to the Jacques-Cartier Champlain Bridges Corporation in February 2002. She also sits on other non-profit boards. A chartered accountant, Ms. Joncas has her own practice and is an Administrator with Production Quarters, a television production and casting company. Ms. Joncas has also written and presented a course called AUDITING COMMITTEE FOR THE QUEBEC ORDER OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS and has taught economics and finance. Her professional experience in the public and private sectors has enabled her to assist companies with their business and strategic planning needs. She has also worked in the private sector as Director of Finance and Administration and as a professional auditor.

 

 


Alister Cowan
BC Hydro

 

Alister Cowan joined BC Hydro as Executive Vice-President Finance and Chief Financial Officer in August 2004. Alister was named Chief Compliance Officer in November 2004. Prior to joining BC Hydro Alister was the Vice-President, Finance, Western Region of Direct Energy Marketing Limited where he led the Finance team and was responsible for all financial aspects of the Downstream Western Region business and building its regional success. Previous to that, he was responsible for financial reporting and planning, financial processes and systems, treasury operations and taxation as the Vice-President & Comptroller of TransAlta Corporation. Alister also played a key role, as CFO, in the transformation of TransAlta New Zealand Limited into New Zealand's premier energy company. Alister holds a BA in Accounting and Finance from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. He has completed several leadership and development programs, is a member of the Financial Executives Institute and Vice Chair of the FEI Committee on Corporate Reporting.

 


Blair Swystun
Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan (CIC)

Blair Swystun is Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan (CIC). CIC is the Saskatchewan government's holding company for over $8 billion in holdings in its commercial Crown corporations, which include SaskPower, SaskTel, SaskEnergy, and SGI, among others. Mr. Swystun has Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science degrees, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder. He has worked in financial analysis, corporate finance, capital markets, and liability management in his 23 years of experience within the Saskatchewan public service. He has also taught corporate finance at the University of Regina. Mr. Swystun is a past President of the CFA Society of Saskatchewan, serves as a member on the boards of trustees of a number of pension plans, and has served as interim Chair of the board of directors of the Saskatchewan Opportunities Corporation.
