Ann Wyganowski, CBCP
HZX Business Continuity Planning

 

Ann's consulting background includes over 20 years of managing large projects and systems implementations across various industries ranging from banking, education, property development & management, publishing, human resources, and telecommunications. Her focus on Business Continuity began in the 1990's, when she developed a disaster recovery and business continuity methodology for Xerox USA, and managed Nortel's Global Finance Y2k & BCP Programs through the century roll over. Following that, Ann spent some time at PriceWaterhouse Coopers, where she developed global BCPs for their managed services teams, before returning to Nortel to revitalize their Global Business Continuity Program.

Nortel has a widely recognized Business Continuity Program as a result of Ann's efforts that includes an infectious disease component, in addition to making creative use of their own products and technology for business continuity. The Nortel BCP has been successfully activated on several occasions, and Ann's team was one of the first three recipients of the Quality Award of Excellence in the company.

Ann is a Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), which is an internationally recognized designation of the DRI International and works as a consultant in the field. She speaks regularly at conferences on Business Continuity, Emergency Response, and Security to both business and government, most recently at the Government of British Columbia's Pandemic Preparedness Business Forum.

Stuart Brindley
Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO)

 

Stuart Brindley is Director, Client Support & Emergency Preparedness at Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). Stuart coordinates the development and maintenance of the Ontario electricity industry's emergency preparedness program, involving electricity market participants and government. This requires ensuring that generators, transmitters, distributors and direct-connect customers all have tested emergency plans in place. Stuart is also chairman of the North American Electric Reliability Council's Critical Infrastructure Protection Committee (CIPC), which works with the electricity industry and governments to help protect the North American electric system from cyber and physical attacks and to respond to emergencies.


Gordon W. Dunn, WSO-CSSD, P.Eng
GO Transit

 

Gordon W. Dunn is the Manager, System Safety at GO Transit in Toronto, Canada. Mr. Dunn graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry and a Masters degree in Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics. Gordon is a Professional Engineer and a Certified Safety and Security Director (Rail Transit). He has over 30 years safety and security experience in Transit, Aerospace and Government settings. At GO TRANSIT, Mr. Dunn is accountable for the planning, coordinating and overseeing all activities associated with the provision of corporate system safety, emergency planning and environmental management systems to ensure that GO Transit's passengers, employees, assets, facilities and operations are protected and that its operations do not adversely affect the general public. Mr. Dunn has written and lectured on health & safety issues at various Universities in Canada.

 


Brian M. Pouliotte
Bell Security Solutions Inc.

 

Brian Pouliotte is a Security Practitioner with over 25 years of progressive experience in the development and implementation of cost-effective security solutions. In his current position as Director of Security Consulting Services, Brian has the responsibility of overseeing client engagements that requires professional security services capability. He ensures that all security and emergency management solutions not only meet clients' business objectives, but also deliver tangible business benefits, and measurable results. He works toward a balance approach between corporate policy & procedures, awareness training, technology applications and operational measures. Brian works with large Enterprise organizations across Canada.

In previous positions, Brian was Director, Security & Emergency Planning with Nav Canada. Prior to that he served for 25 years in functions with progressively increasing responsibility with the RCMP and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service. Brian has a Bachelor of Arts and a Certificate of Management Development from the University of Alberta.

 


Vito Mangialardi, CBCP, PMP
Allstream Inc.

 

Vito Mangialardi is Senior Manager - Corporate Business Continuity Planning, at Allstream Inc. Specializing in BCP, Vito is a Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) and Certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He currently manages the corporate Business Continuity Planning Office at Allstream Inc. and works externally as a business continuity consultant as well. Employed with Allstream since the fall of 1997, Vito has had various direct and indirect positions focusing on operational risk management, network and IT disaster recovery and BCP. Vito's experience spans over 25 years within the transport, environmental, automotive and electric power generation sectors.

 


Vern Metzger
Bruce Power

 

Vern Metzger is Section Manager, Corporate Investigations at Bruce Power. Vern is responsible for conducting major security investigations at Bruce Power and is the single point of contact for CSIS, the Ontario Provincial Police and other external policing agencies, working closely with them to avert terrorist and other emergencies. Vern is also responsible for Bruce Power's executive protection program, providing advice, information and other protection for executives both at work and at their private residences.

 


Frank Simone
MKD Security Awareness and Training Inc.

 

Frank Simone is Vice President of MKD Security Awareness and Training Inc. and a retiree as a Detective after 28 years with the Toronto Police Service, where most of his service was spent in the investigative branch. Frank has a significant level of experience and expertise in interviewing techniques, major case management and investigation. He is also responsible for facilitating security awareness and training initiatives for MKD, which have included Critical Incident/Emergency Response Management.

Frank is also involved in and has extensive experience in training in various areas from Arson Investigation to Legal Authorities. He has prepared and presented well over 500 lectures and has been a lead investigator in numerous high profile investigations from air crashes (1995 Canadian International Air Show - Nimrod) to serial arson investigations (West End Arsonist).

 


Steve Summerville
MKD Security Awareness and Training Inc.

 

Steve Summerville is the Vice President of program delivery for MKD Security - Awareness based out of Concord, Ontario. Steve develops and provides seminars, consultation and provincially mandated training programs to all Canadian security personnel in compliance with the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB), Ontario Bill 159 (enacted December 15th, 2005) and other anticipated acts of consistent provincial legislation.

Steve joined MKD Security - Awareness upon the completion of a four and one half year tenure as the Director of Security Operations for CHUM Television where amongst his duties as Chief Security Officer, he facilitated hundreds of live events from coast-to-coast that included the annual MuchMusic Video Awards.

Steve joined CHUM Television upon the conclusion of a 23 year tenure with the Toronto Police Service.

Steve concluded his policing career at the Ontario Police College by serving a secondment in the Defensive Tactics Section in the capacity of "provincial trainer". He was responsible for providing provincially mandated training to all Ontario police personnel.

Prior to that, Steve's policing career saw him serve in various functions including training co-ordinator at the Toronto Police College "Officer Safety Section", training and operations supervisor for the "Crowd Management Section" of the Public Safety Unit, uniform patrol, youth bureau, criminal investigation, sexual assault investigation and fraud investigation.

Steve has completed courses of study at Humber College, the Canadian Police College, the Canadian Emergency Preparedness College, Emergency Measures Ontario, the Toronto Police College and the Ontario Police College. Steve holds instructor certification in a number of law enforcement programs and has obtained black belt ranking in a number of martial art disciplines.

Steve has gained recognition in various levels of the court system by providing expert evidence in the areas of "use of force", "sharp edge weapon defence", "crowd control dynamics", "police defensive tactics" and provided expert testimony at the Patrick Shand Inquest on behalf of the Regional Coroner's Office for the province of Ontario.

The Patrick Shand jury recommendations lead to the implementation of Bill 159 - the Act to change the Private Investigators Security Guards Act, which received Royal Assent on December 15th, 2005.

Steve is featured regularly on "Court Television Canada" and continues to lecture, consult and facilitate training programs to various groups that include the Retail Council of Canada, the Canadian Society of Industrial Security, the American Society of Industrial Security, Federated Press, various legal firms specializing in litigation, the Ontario Police College, the Canadian Armed Forces, various governmental agencies, community colleges and a select group of licensed and private security firms.

Steve is also a frequent contributor to Canadian Security Magazine where he also sits on the "editorial advisory board" and has just secured a contract with Carswell Publications to author the "Canadian Security Manual - 2nd edition" with a tentative publishing date of December 2006.

 


John Allard
MKD Security Awareness and Training Inc.

 

John Allard is a facilitator/lecturer for MKD Security Training & Awareness Inc. MKD specializes in private investigations, security consulting and the training of personnel and management in security awareness.

John has drawn on his 32 years experience with the Toronto Fire Service, specializing in suppression of fires, fire investigations and the management of large groups of personnel at major incidents.

In 2001, he was a member of the Incident Management Group who revised the Incident Management System now in place with Toronto Fire. This system has been adopted by numerous agencies as their primary Incident Management System.

In 2002, he developed and implemented the Joint Operations policy with Toronto Fire and Toronto Police.

This expertise is invaluable to the private sector. Through John, MKD has implemented these disciplines in our training of our corporate clients and it has since been very successful.

 


Kim Carr
MKD International Inc./MKD Security Awareness and Training Inc.

 

Kim Carr is a senior investigator and consultant with MKD International Inc. and a facilitator/lecturer for MKD Security Training & Awareness Inc. MKD specializes in private investigations, security consulting and the training of personnel and management in security awareness.

He has drawn on his 32 years experience as a Detective with the Toronto Police Service, specializing in homicides, suspicious death investigations, sex crimes, arsons and other major criminal investigations.

His 30 year continuing education course in life has formatted a wealth of experience and risk management training for the private sector in which MKD has been successful in their training of corporate clients.

 


Cynthia Weeden
FutureShield

FutureShield President, Cynthia Weeden, has an honors degree from Ryerson University, and she brings with her 13 years of experience in commercial software companies specializing in network and communications. Cynthia is a dynamic, results-oriented leader. She has participated at the executive level in the successful launch of two independent software development companies: LANSource Technologies (acquired by 3COM) and Opalis Software. She was involved in both from first commercial release through to international exposure with a client base in the thousands. FutureShield is her latest entrepreneurial endeavor specializing in software solutions and services for conducting physical threat/risk assessments and harmonized physical & I.T. security and emergency plans.
